Suit Up, Slimers!

Welcome back to soccer! You've no doubt had a chance to rest those legs, and are ready to get them back in shape. We have 7 games this spring, and we have a lot of work ahead of us to do our best.

As a reminder of Coach Butler's 5 simple rules (PS, I AM going to test you on these!):
1.) Have Fun
2.) Work Hard
3.) Respect Others
4.) Be Safe
5.) Listen

I look forward to a great repeat season!

Practice Numero Uno

Team: Thanks for a great first practice!

Your homework for this week is to come up with a name for our team. Our jerseys and shorts are dark green. At practice today, the team came up with a few ideas:
-Fire Dragons
-Green Slimers
-Team 1Up

If you want to suggest an another name, please have your parents send it to me in an email! We'll vote at practice next Thursday, so don't miss it!

Game On

Hey Team!

Here is our schedule:
Date Time Treats
(Sept 6) 9:30 Scott
Sept 13 11:30 Tae
(Sept 20) 12:30 Andy
Sept 27 10:30 Carson F
(Oct 4) 12:30 Aidan
Oct 11 8:30 Carson M
(Oct 18) 12:30 Thomas

Parents: we need referee volunteers for the dates in parentheses. Basically, all you need is to understand VERY basic soccer rules, and own a whistle! Please let me know if you're willing to help!

Thanks!
Coach Butler

Schedule

Thursday at 7PM will be our regularly scheduled soccer practice. I'd like to practice at Sand Springs Elementary. Our first practice will be on Thursday the 28th of August. Practices will be 45 minutes long, and parents are always welcome to stay. For our first practice, we'll play a few simple games, get to know each other, and I'll pass out uniforms.

Some of our practice drills are listed on www.laytonayso.com. Click on Coach Info, Soccer Drills. Feel free to try some of these at home with your kids.

Please bring a size 3 soccer ball to each practice with your child's name on it. Also, shin guards are required. If your child has cleats (plastic, please), they are welcome to bring them.

I'm still waiting for our actual game schedule, but our first game should be on September 6th.

Thanks,
Coach Butler

'Mates

Hey, Thomas, Carson M, Aidan, Carson S, Andy, Keonte, and Scott:

Glad to have you all on the team!

Coach Butler

Introduction

Soccer. What a beautiful game.

I grew up playing soccer as a kid (we played in jeans back in those days), and soccer has always been near and dear to my heart. I lived in Brazil for 2 years where I became infected with the soccer virus (totally incurable). Later our family lived in Spain for a year, where I became further enamored with euro-soccer. My teams are: USA, Brazil, Spain, Barcelona, Real Zaragoza, and Liverpool, in that order.

As a coach, I have five simple rules for our kids:
1.) Have Fun
2.) Work Hard
3.) Respect Others
4.) Be Safe
5.) Listen

I intend to continue to have fun at this game, and hope to pass a little bit of my love of the game to our kids. I hope that you'll find this blog useful as I try to communicate information regarding our schedule and progress.
